lost love at the lighthouse Complete Lost Love at the Lighthouse Quest Guide

Embarking on the side quests of Cyseal in Divinity: Original Sin reveals some of the most compelling narratives in the game. One such memorable storyline is the Lost Love at the Lighthouse quest, which details a tragic tale of betrayal and ghostly unrest. Navigating this quest successfully requires exploring dangerous dungeons and making a pivotal moral decision at the journey's end.
Meeting the Ghostly Quest Giver
To begin this quest, you must venture to the lighthouse located on the western side of the Cyseal map. Inside the basement of this building, you will encounter the spirit of a former lighthouse keeper named Samson. Speaking with him reveals a dark secret regarding his deceased wife and a tragic shipwreck caused by his own jealousy.
Before diving deep into this investigation, it is highly recommended to initiate a related quest called The Scaredy Pact. Handling these interconnected tasks together will maximize your efficiency while exploring the dangerous wilderness outside the city walls. Samson will not give you a direct command, but his tragic story points your party toward a distant destination.
Navigating the Depths of Black Cove
The next phase of your journey requires locating Samson's lost lover, which takes your party into the treacherous Black Cove dungeon. Upon entering the cove, you will witness a massive battle between hostile factions of skeletons and orcs. Navigate just south of this battleground to find a large, locked black door that blocks your progression.
To unlock this ominous doorway, you must delve deeper into the lower sections of the area to defeat a formidable boss named Pontius. Defeating this enemy allows you to loot his body for the essential key needed back at the black door. Once you unlock the path, follow the linear hallway forward to confront a massive mini-boss known as the Source Nightmare.
Reuniting the Lovers and Choosing a Fate
After vanquishing the aquatic monstrosity, you will finally encounter the ghost of Samson's wife, Desdemona. Speaking with her allows you to reveal the truth about her husband's deliberate actions and subsequent tragic demise. Upon learning this devastating news, her spirit will immediately teleport back to the Cyseal lighthouse for a final confrontation.
Return to the lighthouse basement to witness a bitter argument between the two spirits as they look to you for advice. You can choose to argue that Samson is truly repentant, which awards your party the Compassionate trait and a unique achievement. Alternatively, siding with Desdemona's right to anger grants the Heartless trait and a different narrative resolution.
